Mechanical Engineer (Manufacturing)

Turing is looking for candidates with strong experience in mechanical engineering, system design, and production optimization. Role overview: In this role, you will contribute to projects that help evaluate and enhance AI systems using your engineering knowledge and analytical reasoning skills. No prior AI experience is required. These projects will help you explore how AI can be leveraged to improve technical reasoning, engineering accuracy, and design efficiency across manufacturing workflows. What does day-to-day look like: Design and solve real-world mechanical and manufacturing engineering problems to test AI reasoning. Write clear, structured solutions covering mechanical design, materials selection, failure analysis, and production methods. Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with engineering principles. Collaborate with researchers to refine AI understanding of simulation reasoning, calculations, and industry standards (ASME, ISO, ASTM). Requirements: 4+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering. Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) and engineering analysis methods (FEA, CFD) preferred. Strong English communication and technical reasoning skills. Comfortable using web-based tools for annotation and review. Perks of freelancing with Turing & offer details: Strong compensation (exact amount varies by project). Fully remote work environment. Engagement type: Contractor assignment/freelancer, potentially full-time. Duration of projects: approximately 1 month, with the possibility for extension. What Turing is NOT seeking from your expertise: Confidential or proprietary information from any employer, university, etc. Trade secrets or internal company or university data. Specific client information or case details. Any information that would violate NDAs, employment agreements or other confidentiality obligations. About Turing: Based in San Francisco, California, Turing is the world’s leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing supports customers in two ways: first, by accelerating frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, plus top AI researchers who specialize in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents; and second, by applying that expertise to help enterprises transform AI from proof of concept into proprietary intelligence with systems that perform reliably, deliver measurable impact, and drive lasting results on the P&L.
